Officers . Elected Tuesday For Congregational Men The Christian Laymen’s League of the Congregational Church of Christ elected the following o.cers Tuesday night: Holland Brady Jr., president; Edward H. Sayre, vice president; H. F. Wuehrmann, secretary; Emil Hinrichs, treas urer. Supt. Brank Proffitt of the Tryon Schools was chief speaker and told of the importance of the public school as the heart of our democratic sytem of government. Only through an educated citizen, ry can we maintain a democratic form of government, because the public offers equal opportunities to all children regardless of economic status. Landrum Garden Club The Garden Club had a Christ mas party at their regular meet ing in the Fellowship Hall of the Methodist Church on Thursday. Mrs. John Brown, program chairman, introduced Mrs. Eliza beth Gramling Turner of Spar tanburg who gave a talk on wrap ping Christmas packages. Refreshments were served by Mrs. DeFoix Suttle, Mrs. C. M. Littlefield, Mrs. Paul Edwards, Mrs. John Brown, Mrs. A. B. Turner, Mrs. Eston Jackson, Mrs. A. B. Waldrop, and Miss Margie Daniel. Gifts were exchanged.
